Star Trek: Picard first premiered during the early days of 2020, back when most of the world hadn’t felt the brunt of the COVID-19 pandemic yet. Since then, fans have been waiting for more news about Season 2. Unfortunately, the pandemic happened and the showrunners had to push back their initial plans to start production on Season 2 in late 2020 to 2021. The silver lining here is that Star Trek: Picard’s third season is already in production. Fingers crossed, Trekkers won’t have to wait too long to see Jean-Luc Picard back on the small screen again. Having said that, the initial trailer for Star Trek: Picard season 2 reveals what fans have known for a while - a prominent role for John de Lancie’s notorious villain, Q. From what we can tell so far, Q has a new test for Picard and his crew. We’ll likely see Picard contend with alternate realities and travel through time while working with the rest of his crew to get the present timeline in order. Having said that, the next few months will be quite eventful for Star Trek fans. Star Trek: Picard’s second season will premiere on March 3. We can assume that it will take over Star Trek: Discovery’s weekly Thursday release schedule. Once the fourth season of Discovery is finished with its mid-season break on February 10, many believe that the season finale will coincide with the premiere of Season 2 of Picard. But, there might be some overlap if Season 4 of Discovery ends up having more than 11 episodes, which isn’t exactly a bad thing. Of course, this is all just speculation. The good news is that Trekkies won’t have to wait too long to find out just how much Star Trek content is coming in the next few months. Either way, we’re sure that the return of Discovery and Picard will make the long wait for more Star Trek worth it.
