In the latest chapter of the events following Black Adam’s lackluster box office earnings - no offense to the Brahma Bull, but nobody believes the film made profit - as well as the arrival of James Gunn and Peter Safran, The Rock has clarified his place within the DCU. According to Johnson, he and Gunn “connected” and the conversation ultimately led to the anti-hero Adam being booted out of the DC Universe if only temporarily. Johnson explains that his production studio, Seven Bucks Productions, are still working with DC Studios to find ways to insert Black Adam in “future DC multiverse chapters.” If this isn’t already made clear yet, what Johnson is saying is that next year’s slate of films that are part of the DC Extended Universe is effectively useless.
— Dwayne Johnson (@TheRock) December 20, 2022 If it’s any consolation, Black Adam’s temporary exit from the DC Universe doesn’t mean that The Rock is no longer coming back. Given that this is his passion project, we’re pretty sure The Rock made sure that he’ll return in the future. But, what this does mean is no character is safe. If booting Henry Cavill as Superman was done to send a message, doing the same to The Rock and Black Adam is tantamount to doubling down.
♬ Epic Music(842283) - Pavel We’re just hoping that, when Gunn does come calling, The Rock won’t be too old to play as the king of Kahndaq. Keep in mind, The Rock is 50 years old now. He’ll likely be pushing 60 when the DC Universe has kickstarted its first chapter. This leaves him a few years to play an imposing figure as Black Adam before age (and his alleged steroid use) inevitably catches up to him. In the meantime, fans can look forward to watching The Rock’s upcoming list of sequels to Jungle Cruise, Red Notice, and Jumanji, among others.
