Then, earlier this month, Sony released Horizon Forbidden West, which critics loved even more so than the original game while also hyping up Gran Turismo 7 in its first State of Play event of the year. Now, it appears that Sony wants to make it three months in a row. Technically, Sony has already started its March slate right by confirming the PS Plus lineup for the month. With five games available to PS Plus subscribers for free - PS5 owners with an active PS Plus subscription can get GTA Online for three months after its launch on March 15 - March was already a big month for the PlayStation brand. But, rumor has it that Sony is planning to hold an even bigger State of Play in March. This isn’t the first time we’ve heard of it. Previously, we reported on rumors about a State of Play event that might happen in March and will contain more information about Hogwarts Legacy. This time around, it’s not just Hogwarts Legacy that’s being thrown into the mix. As per the latest grapevine talk, Sony will reveal more about its upcoming games for later this year, specifically, the release date of God of War: Ragnarok, after being officially revealed last year. All of these renewed talks about the State of Play in March stems from @Shpeshal_Nick, who went on Twitter to tell that Sony has something planned in March that’s supposed to be “the good one.”

In recent weeks, we’ve seen Sony launch the official PSVR2 website as well as unveil the virtual headset’s official design. Not to mention, Sony’s live-action adaptation of Uncharted had a big box office debut and after effectively confirming a sequel, Sony could use a State of Play event to make it official while also revealing the PC release date of Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection. There’s also the fact that Square Enix wants to reveal more about its upcoming games, including Final Fantasy XVI and Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 2, as well as an unannounced exclusive for the PlayStation console. If it’s any consolation, all of these things that Sony has going for it suggests that a State of Play event might come eventually, even if not in March. In addition, Sony could stagger all this news so that it holds a State of Play event every other month for the rest of the year, which wouldn’t be a bad idea in light of the recent talks of the cancellation of E3 2022. At the end of the day, only Sony knows what it intends to do for the foreseeable future, but after a strong start to 2022, we’re definitely hoping that the company keeps it up.
