The latest source of the Metal Gear rumors is Noriaki Okamura, who had previously worked with Kojima on several games, most notably Metal Gear Acid 2 and Metal Gear Survive. According to a note shared with Famitsu (via Gematsu), Okamura mentioned the keyword for the company for next year is “long-awaited” and that next year will be a “year of many announcements.” On one hand, Okamura could’ve been talking about a different project. Konami is currently working on a smorgasbord of Silent Hill games, including Silent Hill F, a remake of Silent Hill 2, a new live-action Silent Hill movie, Silent Hill: Townfall, and Silent Hill: Ascension. On the other hand, Okamura isn’t exactly part of the said projects. It’s highly unlikely that he’s talking about games that he’s not a part of when asked about Konami’s plans for next year. Okamura also hasn’t worked on anything outside of Policenauts, Zone of the Enders, and Metal Gear. Simply put, Okamura was one of Kojima’s closest collaborators when the video game auteur was still working with Konami. So, you can’t exactly blame fans for thinking that he’s teasing a new Metal Gear project. Konami mentioned last year that it’s working on several projects and later reports claim the Japanese company is reviving its iconic franchises. We already know the Silent Hill part of this plan. It’s not far-fetched for Konami to keep development on the Metal Gear series in-house if only because people like Okamura are still in the company. We’ve heard of rumors that Virtuous Games is working on a Metal Gear Solid 3 remake while Bluepoint Games is believed to be hinting at a Metal Gear Solid remake. Either way, there are plenty of dots to connect as far as Metal Gear Solid goes. All that’s missing now is for Konami to outright deny or confirm all of these rumors. Fingers crossed, the latter will happen next year.
