According to Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, “Someone Who Would Know Firsthand” as well as “Someone Else Who Might Know Secondhand” haven’t told him of a delay to God of War Ragnarok. This is in line with Schreier’s previous statement that the follow-up to the best-selling PS4 game is still on track to come out before the year ends. But, at the same time, conflicting reports suggest that a delay isn’t totally impossible. You have to remember that Horizon Forbidden West was all set to come out last year and Sony even had a State of Play showcase dedicated to the Horizon Zero Dawn sequel. Yet, this didn’t spare the game from a lengthy delay. Now, we’re not saying that Santa Monica Studio has pushed back the release of the God of War sequel, but we’re not ruling out the possibility either. So far, delays have defined the development of God of War: Ragnarok, but fans don’t seem overly concerned that this is affecting the game’s quality. The initial issue was so as to give Kratos’ voice actor, Christopher Judge, enough time to rest after several surgeries that kept him out of action for months. Even if Sony doesn’t release Ragnarok this year, we have zero doubt that this is for the better. It’s difficult to shake off this feeling of unease stemming from the lack of news from Santa Monica Studio. It helps that several individuals at Santa Monica Studio have “confirmed” that the game is still on schedule. However, the studio has gone radio silent since, which is a cause for concern. The studio already missed two prime opportunities to show off more of God of War: Ragnarok at the June 2 State of Play and the Summer Game Fest. If there’s a silver lining to this, it’s that the talks will force Sony or Santa Monica Studio to come forward with a statement.
