That honor now belongs to Christian Bale’s The Pale Blue Eye, which features the English actor as detective Augustus Landor in 1830s New York. Glass Onion is now third on the weekly Top 10 list behind The Pale Blue Eye and The Hatchet Wielding Hitchhiker respectively. Given that Netflix ranks its most popular films based on the volume of hours viewed within their first 28 days, Glass Onion could still rise higher up the list to claim the number three spot, which is currently occupied by Bird Box with 282 million hours. The film debuted on the platform on December 23 and, as a result, is still eligible for rating for the week of January 16 – 22. However, there is virtually no chance the film will rise higher than that as the number one and two films, Red Notice and Don’t Look Up, have views of 364 million and 359.7 million hours respectively. Whether it rises higher or not, Glass Onion has already made Netflix history. The film had a limited theatrical release exactly one month after its streaming debut and grossed $15 million to become Netflix’s highest-grossing theatrical release of all time. By the way, Rian Johnson is currently working on a third installment of the series. During a recent interview, the series’s creator confirmed he has begun writing the script for the series’s third installment. The Star Wars director stated that he intends for the third film to proceed in a different direction “tonally and thematically” from the first two installments. In other news, Ginny & Georgia season 2 maintains its lead at the top of the weekly Top 10 television shows ranking for the second week running. The comedy-drama debuted on January 5 and quickly skyrocketed to the top of the ranking, with 180.4 million viewership hours in its first week. While it experienced a slight drop, its second-week viewership hours of 162.7 million was more than enough to maintain the top spot. In second place is Ginny & Georgia season 1 which rode its sequel’s coattails back to the top 10 rankings. The show accumulated 63.2 million viewership hours to achieve this feat. Wednesday, the Addams Family spinoff, currently sits in third place with 57.8 million views. The second season of Vikings: Valhalla and Kaleidoscope round up the top 5 respectively. It definitely looks like the situation over at Netflix is getting better but the streaming giant needs more hits and continuity - not cancelations - if it is to retain its spot at the top of the streaming world.
