Martin’s involvement in Elden Ring was one of the reasons why the project was so hyped when it was first announced in 2019. Several years and multiple delays later, FromSoftware finally released the fantasy open-world title to much critical acclaim. Now, Martin has penned a blog letting everyone know just how over the moon he is to see the world that he helped build become so beloved. FromSoftware’s open-world title already finds itself in rare company as one of the few games to exceed even the highest expectations. You can only imagine just how much hype Elden Ring got leading up to its release after the initial reveal last year. Elden Ring isn’t just loved by critics, its review scores are in the history books already. This is even more impressive when you consider that Elden Ring is still being “review-bombed” by PC gamers because of a handful of persistent bugs and issues. Not to mention, Elden Ring faced some heavy competition with Horizon Forbidden West and Pokemon Legends: Arceus all being released just a few weeks earlier. The A Song of Ice and Fire author has infamously stopped working on the novels mid-way through. This resulted in a controversial final couple of seasons for HBO’s Game of Thrones, culminating in a universally reviled eighth and final season. The good news here is that Martin is working on something related to the ASOIAF, but it’s still not The Winds of Winter, the sixth planned book in the series. Instead, Martin is heavily involved in House of the Dragon, a prequel series set two hundred years before the events of Game of Thrones.
